What is Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a Japanese healing art deeply rooted in the philosophy and practices of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Like acupuncture, Shiatsu works by balancing the body's vital life force. Ki flows through the meridian pathways in all parts of the body. On a physical level, Shiatsu stimulates the circulation and flow of lymphatic fluid helping to release toxins and deep seated tension from the muscles and stimulating the hormone system. On a more subtle level, Shiatsu is deeply relaxing and gets in touch with the body's own healing abilities.

Your energetic state is first ascertained by taking a detailed case history at the beginning of the first session and by palpating the abdomen or the back.
Following the diagnosis several meridians will be worked on using stretching (if appropriate) to help disperse and move the Ki. Gentle pressure is applied to the meridians and appropriate acupuncture points using palms or thumbs to balance the flow of Ki along the meridian. Holding points on the meridians helps to concentrate awareness and release tension, which can unlock physical, emotional and psychological blockages.
You remain fully clothed for the Shiatsu treatment which takes place on a futon at floor level. The room is maintained at a comfortable temperature and soft background music can help to bring you to a relaxed state of mind. The treatment lasts approximately one hour.
Response to Treatment
After a Shiatsu treatment you will probably feel invigorated yet relaxed. Shiatsu affects all levels of our being, the physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual. You may be given advice on diet, exercise and lifestyle, encouraging self-understanding and greater independence in health matters. This in turn leads to improved self-confidence and lasting peace of mind.
I have trained with the Shiatsu College in Brighton and London and with the Glasgow School of Shiatsu after moving to Scotland.
